Staff Profiles

The partners of Harold Bell & Co. believe that good service can only be provided by a combination of good staff and modern technology.  Always leaders in investing in computer and up to date equipment, we do believe that the 'tail should not wag the dog'. Thus we have sound and well trained staff to assist us in our clients business, who use the technological aids to help them. Most of our staff have been with us for many years. Some of them are in the 'photo below. We are happy to introduce our staff and ourselves to you.

Partner Profiles

Malcolm A. Bell

Admitted in 1978, Malcolm became a partner with his father's former partner (Ronald T. Barrett, known to many long standing clients) immediately on qualifying. A third partner ran a Devon branch office for some years. In time the Devon office was sold off and in 1990 Ron Barrett retired. After a year or so, during which Malcolm was a sole practitioner, Tracy Poolman became a Partner to Malcolm's great relief and the continued benefit of the practice.

Malcolm has commercial experience from articles in London and considerable general experience in practice in Ewell. He deals mainly with residential and commercial conveyancing (including business sales and purchases) and wills, with an overlap into the probate department for Inheritance Tax advice.

Malcolm is married with three children and lives in Sussex. He is interested in cars, golf, photography, flying and travel. None of them sufficiently indulged.

Martyn J. Dixon

Martyn is a partner in the firm from 1 May 2014, having made a huge contribution to it since he joined in 2007.  Martyn previously worked for another firm where he completed his training contract, he qualified as a Solicitor in February 2006. During his training contract he particularly enjoyed Wills and Probate and decided he wanted to expand his practice in this area. Since 2007 Martyn has worked exclusively in the Private Client field. Martyn's approachable and easy nature makes him popular with staff and clients alike. His young years belie his professional, determined and soundly based approach. Martyn deals with all aspects of probate work as well as wills, powers of attorney and trust and management. He is happy to discuss any of this when you contact him. Martyn's interests include running, rugby, listening to music and cooking.

Consultant Profiles

David R. Steed

David joined the firm as a consultant in February 2011 and has worked locally in the Surrey area for many years, having qualified in the City of London where he acted for large property companies and estate developers.

David has been known to the partners for many years and we are very glad to have the opportunity to have him work with us.

He deals with both commercial and residential property including licensed premises and secured funding work for large corporations.

He has been a committee member of Surrey Law Society for some years and was the President of the Society in 2004-2005 and again in 2009-2010.

Having spent many years of good service on the Mid Surrey Law Society committee, has, deservedly, been elected to the national Law Society Council as one of the two Council members for the Surrey constituency. We are sure that he will be a hard working and valuable addition to those already on the Council. We wish him luck. He took office on 14th July 2011 for a term of 4 years.

He is a keen amateur photographer and rifle shooter and his main claim to fame is the case which he personally brought against the Home Office following the handgun ban and which ended up in the House of Lords (he won!)

Robert D. Millett

Robert joined the practice as a Consultant in 1990 having retired as Senior Partner of another local firm, with whom he had been all his working his life.  Robert is now mostly retired although still keeps an eye on one or two of his well established clients.  He still keeps an office here and pops in occasionally.  Over the years he has contributed enormously to the welfare of the practice and has been a “wise old owl” on numerous occasions.  We wish him continued good health and a long and enjoyable retirement and look forward to his occasional visits to the office to catch up on his clients.
